William A. (Bud) Hurt, age 81 of Fitzgerald, GA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA following a brief illness.
He was born in Fitzgerald, GA on January 13, 1936, the son of the late Stanley and Lillian Hurt.
Bud was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and the Massey School of Business. He began his career at Georgia Highway Express in Atlanta and eventually transferred to CSX Railroad in Fitzgerald, GA where he was employed for 27 years. He retired in 1997 and spent the next 17 years enjoying his family, his pets, politics and Georgia Football.
Bud was active in several organizations including the Lions Club where he served as President. The Masonic Lodge where he served as secretary and a member of the Scottish Rite where he was conferred the 33 degree. Bud was an enthusiastic supporter of the Second Amendment and a dedicated Member of Georgia Carry.
Bud is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Loraine Bowen Hurt and his children, Debra Hurt Moorman (GCO Member) and her husband Larry (GCO Sponsor), Kathy Hurt Massee and her husband Cleve, William (Billy)Hurt, Faye Hurt Turney (GCO Life Member) and her husband Chuck Turney (GCO Life Member and member of the Board of Directors). He was especially proud of his grandchildren, Mallory Massee, Jake Hurt, Jason Hendley (GCO Member), Alex Moorman, Ashley Hurt and Rebecca Massee.
